Application Process
Eight first-year resident positions are offered each academic year. We accept applications through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) beginning September of each year. When searching for our program, enter "McGaw Northwestern" as the Institution. Please note that the program does not offer opportunities for observership rotations at this time.
Requirements for consideration:
- No more than 1 year out of medical school
- Fluent in English
J-1 & H-1 visas are considered. Please refer to McGaw Medical Center for visa questions.
Interview Process
Each application received from the ERAS Program is reviewed by the program director, an attending and a resident who have been selected for this process.
Applicants are screened with special attention paid to:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Medical school transcripts
- USMLE 1 exam scores
- USMLE 2 exam scores when available
- Dean's letter
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
The residency coordinator notifies each applicant selected for interviews by e-mail. Dates for interviews and location information are provided. Candidates should notify the residency coordinator of their desired interview date either by e-mail or phone.
Interviews are conducted on Thursdays. In addition to the interviews themselves, the day will consist of tours of our institutions, lunch, and dinner at the home of one of our residents.
Shortly after the final interviews, the department attendings and residents will meet to review the candidates and determine the rank list order.
The screening process does not consider gender, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, ethnic origin, economic status, veteran status or place of residence.
