Deborah L. Edberg, MD
Program Director
Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr. Edberg attended Jefferson Medical College and completed her residency at University of Connecticut St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Edberg has served on the board of directors for the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians since 2006, serving as Treasurer in 2010, second vice-president in 2011 and first vice-president in 2012. Her interests include: Acupuncture, Community Health, Underserved Medicine and Wellness.

Anuj Kumar Shah, MD, MPH                                                                 Associate Program Director
Clinical Instructor, Department of Family and Community Medicine                                                                                                                 
Dr. Shah attended Loyola University Chicago- Stritch School of Medicine and completed his residency at Greater Lawrence Family Practice Residency in Lawrence, MA. He completed a faculty development and research fellowship at MacNeal Family Medicine Residency in Chicago, and obtained his Masters in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His interests include human rights, community-based health care, and education.

Gail Patrick, MD, MPP
Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine

Dr. Patrick attended the University of Chicago - Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her residency with the Cook County - Loyola - Provident Family Medicine Residency Program, caring for patients at both Stroger and Provident Hospitals of Cook County.  Dr. Patrick also received her Master's of Public Policy at the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago.  Her interests include: Urban Community Health, Primary-Specialty Care interface, and Evidence-based Medicine.

Frank Castillo MD, FAAFP
Medical Clerkship Coordinator
Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine

Dr. Castillo attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin - Madison Medicine Residency.  Dr. Castillo also received his MA at University of Notre Dame du Lac in International Peace Studies.  His interests include: Care of Diabetics and working with medical students.

Mark T. Loafman MD, MPH
Director of Inpatient Services
Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine       Chief Clinical Integration Officer at Norwegian Americal Hospital

Dr. Loafman attended Rush University and completed his residency and fellowship in Maternal and Child Health at Brown University Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.  Dr. Loafman also received his Master's in Public Health at University of Illinois School of Public Health.  His interests include: Underserved Populations, Maternal Child Health, Health Disparities, Patient Safety and Performance Improvement.

Mary R. Talen, PhD                                                                                           Director of Behavioral Health
Clinical Instructor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr.  Talen  received her BA in psychology from Calvin College, her MA in marriage, family and child counseling from Fuller Theological Seminary and her PhD in counseling psychology from the Teacher’s College of Columbia University.  Currently in progress is her MS in clinical psychopharmacology with Fairleigh Dickinson University. Dr. Talen has over 25 published articles, with 20 as first-author and has over 55 national and international presentations  on the themes of implementation of behavioral health best practices with evidenced based medicine,  ensuring a comprehensive continuum of care with outreach to underserved and uninsured populations and fusion of Balint with problem-solving strategies.

Amy L. Schroeder, MD
Clinical Instructor of Family and Community Medicine

Dr. Schroeder attended Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed her residency at the West Suburban Family Practice Residency Program.  Her interests include: Maternal Child Health.

Vanessa Villacorta Sierra, MD                                                                 Clinical Instructor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr. Villacorta Sierra attended the University of Illinois  at Chicago College of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Illinois—St. Joseph Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Her interests include: women’s health, community medicine, health and fitness, and working with underserved populations.

Gayatri Menon, DO, MPH                                                                        Clinical Instructor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr. Menon attended Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, IL. Her interests include: adolescent medicine, community health, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and underserved populations.

Jeffrey M. Panzer, MD                                                                                Clinical Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr. Panzer attended Temple University School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University.  His interests include: global health and outpatient procedures. 

Deborah Midgley, MD                                                                                   Clinical Instructor of Family and Community Medicine

 Dr. Midgley attended the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her Family Practice Residency at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, IL.  Her interests include underserved populations, maternal child health, patient education, and Spanish-speaking populations.
